FimCH: Type-1 pilus adhesin-chaperone pre-assembly complex
FimCH
The pre-assembly complex between the type 1 pilus chaperone FimC and
the type 1 pilus adhesin FimH from E. coli has been purified to
homogeneity (Jones et al.,
1993) and crystallized from ammonium sulphate solutions using the
hanging drop vapour diffusion method. The FimCH crystals grow as small
lentil-shaped crystals and belong to the space group P41212 or P43212
with cell dimensions a = b = 98.4 A, c = 216.5 A, and diffract to a
minimum Bragg spacing of 3.2 A. The crystals grow quite slowly and
only appear after 4-6 months; most of the crystals are very small (<
0.04 mm in any direction) but occasionally larger crystals (0.2 mm x
0.1 mm x 0.1 mm) are formed.
