Project: Crystallographic studies of monoamine oxidase, a drug target in the treatment of clinical depression and Parkinson's disease
Emma Jakobsson will commence her PhD studies early in 1999. During the autumn of 1998 she has been working on her MSc-thesis project with Kleywegt. This work involved the construction of a homology model for monoamine oxidase, with the aim of designing mutants that may be more amenable to crystallisation (and less to aggregation) than the wild-type enzyme. During the Spring of 1999, Emma will visit our collaborators at USC in Los Angeles to learn to express (baculovirus) and purify His-tagged human MAO-A.
