Project: Electron crystallography of microsomal glutathione
transferase
Funding ends: 30 June, 2002
Research project
The first few months of the year was spent processing
electron micrographs of two-dimensional crystals of
the plane group p22121 of the membrane protein microsomal
glutathione transferase 1. This resulted in a three-dimensional
model at 6 Å that could be compared with the
recently published structure obtained from the p6 crystals
(Schmidt-Krey et al., 2000). A manuscript for these
results is under construction. Further development
of the project is also going on.
Registration
On May 11th, I held my registration seminar at the Centre
for Structural Biochemistry on the Karolinska Institute
and was subsequently registered as a Ph.D. student
the 23rd of May.
Conferences
The 19th-23rd May the International Conference on Glutathione
Transferases in Uppsala was attended and a poster was
presented. June 9-12th the 4th Annual Conference of
the Swedish Structural Biology Network in Tällberg
was attended and there I gave an oral presentation
and also presented a poster on The 3D structure of
Microsomal Glutathione Transferase 1 at 6 Å resolution
as obtained by Electron Crystallography. July 9-14th
the 12th European Congress on Electron Microscopy was
attended in Brno in the Czech Republic where I attended
the workshop Docking Xray-data into EM-structures.
