Understading Structural Transitions Using Ultrafast X-ray Sources and Computer Simulations.

Emering X-ray lasers will provide hard X-ray flashes with pulse durations of femtoseconds and a peak brilliance of orders of magnitude higher than that which is currently avaidable from third generation synchrotrons. This is a never-seen regime for which only predictions exist today. The our objective is to preform theoretical and experimental studies to explore new frontiers at the physical limits of macromolecular imaging.

My Ph D project have involved both theoretical and experimental work. On the theoretical side, I have been working on the understanding of photon-material interaction and the behaviour of small water clusters (thought to contain sample molecules) in vacuum. On the experimental side, the focus have been on interaction between short intense xray pulses and material.
