Stockholm Bioinformatics Center 3 Lecturers, 1 Assistant Professor in Bioinformatics Stockholm Bioinformatics Center (SBC) is a joint research center between Stockholm University, The Royal Instititute of Technology, and Karolinska Institutet. It is funded by a 5 year center grant from the Foundation for Strategic Research (www.stratresearch.se), and is located in the Arrhenius Laboratories for Natural Sciences at Stockholm University. SBC is headed by Prof. Gunnar von Heijne (www.biokemi.su.se/~gvh/index.html). SBC is now recruiting three lecturers (h=F6gskolelektor) and one assistant professor (forskarassistent). Three additional assistant professors will be recruited over the next 1-2 years. It is expected that some 20-30 people (including Ph.D. students and postdocs) will work at the center. For further information about SBC, please contact Prof. Gunnar von Heijne (gunnar@biokemi.su.se) or check the SBC homepage (www.biokemi.su.se/sbc/). STOCKHOLM UNIVERSITY invites applications for the position of SENIOR LECTURER in BIOINFORMATICS, at the Department of Biochemistry (ref. no. 612-0981/99). The position is at the Department of Biochemistry, but will be placed at Stockholm Bioinformatics Center for the duration of the center grant from the Foundation for Strategic Research (at least 5 years). The position is focused on methods development for theoretical studies of biomolecular sequence data and sequence-structure-function relationships. The successful applicant should engage in research, supervision of Ph.D. students, and advanced graduate-level teaching of bioinformatics. Teaching on the undergraduate level may be included later on. Qualified applicants should hold a PhD or comparable academic degree and also possess the required educational skills. The lecturer should be able to teach either in Swedish or English. Evaluation of the candidates will be based on the scientific and teaching merits which will be given equal weights. Administrative experience will also count in the selection process. Of further importance are skills in management and as well as in co-operating with other non-academic societal institutions and disseminating the results of scientific research and development. In the event applicants contemplate claiming the right to be granted a professorship rather than a senior lectureship they are asked to express this clearly in the application. Since most of the senior lecturers within the Section of Chemistry are men, the University especially invites female applicants. The following items should be included in the application (3 copies): 1 Curriculum vitae 2 A numbered bibliography 3 A description of the candidate=B9s research achievements, teaching experience and leadership ability (maximum 5 pages) 4 A formal letter of intent (maximum 2 pages) 5 Photocopies of graduation diplomas 6 A list of the 20 most important research publications of the candidate=B9s own choice, numbered in accordance with the bibliography. Copies should not be included in the application but later, at the request of the university, sent to the outside experts. For further information please contact Professor Gunnar von Heijne (telephone +46 8 162590, e-mail: gunnar@biokemi.su.se), or administrator Ann-Charlotte =D6stblom (telephone +46 8 162086, e-mail: AC.Ostblom@natkan.su.se). Trade union representatives: Bo Ekengren (SACO) and Lillemor Moberg (ST/ATF), telephone +46 8 16 20 00. Applications (in triplicate) should be sent to Stockholm University, Registrar/PA, SE-106 91 Stockholm, Sweden, and should arrive by May 24, 1999. Applications initially sent by fax (to the Registrar: +46 8 163866) or by e-mail (registrator@su.se) should be followed by signed originals as soon as possible.
