Bioinformatics: From Genome Sequences to Protein Structures Structure prediction

Introduction

We will look at the use of:

• Secondary structure prediction
• Prediction of transmembrane regions
• Fold recognition

These methods have their uses, but none is particularly accurate and they can give wildly erroneous results.

While you work through this practical, write down your answers to the various questions. These questions are just meant so that you can check for yourself that you have understood the key points in the tutorial.
